Behind The Lens

Location

On a weekend trip to Michigan, enjoying some back roads and wineries, we came across this barn. It was a quick opportunity when passing traffic slowed down. I am a self-taught photographer and the only revisions I did to the photograph was some color pops.

Time

This was taken early afternoon in September.

Lighting

It was all natural lighting.

Equipment

I use a Sony A-55.

Inspiration

I love old buildings and fall colors. The owners of this barn had their property all decorated with pumpkins and fall decor and with the sun shining down, it was "picture perfect."

Editing

I used Microsoft Picture Manager 2013 to make simple processing tweaks. All I did for this photograph was an autocorrect on coloring and then adjusted the contrast and shadows.

In my camera bag

I have a full bag of equipment from when I began working with Konica Minolta 35mm film and Tamron lenses. When they sold to Sony, I changed bodies but not lenses. When I upgraded to the A-55, the old Tamron lenses were not working as effectively with the new technology anymore. Now I mainly use my Sony A-55 and a 25-50mm lens.

Feedback

If you plan on using natural lighting your best times are either before 10am or after 5-6pm when the sun begins to set. The lighting is too harsh in the middle of the afternoon.
