Location
This shot was taken in Sweden along the shore of Sweden's most southern town Trelleborg.Time
Packed my gear for an afternoon along the shore too see what beautiful things I could see. And at around 16:00 I spotted this Tern fishing.Lighting
This is birdphotography and I was still very new to the whole thing when I took this photo. Which explains the burned out highlights. But it build up a nice contrast in the subject. The terns beak points north so you have the sun from the soutwest and as you can see its very hard light and that's a challenge when the bird is white and constantly moving. One second the water is backdrop the next the sky. Light is a really interesting thing.Equipment
Here I had just recently bought a Canon EOS 7D Mark II moving on from a 70D and gosh did I enjoy that AF-speed. I had also upgraded my Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 L IS to the Mark II version. This combo is awesome together. You have great handholdability, you have zoom, you have very short mimimum focus distance, its very sharp and with the 1.6 crop factor of the 7D Mark II you get even more reach.Inspiration
As most of my photos its nature. Nature is what keeps me ticking. How it all just works, interactions between animals and plants, the co-existence of all thing is just mind boggeling. ANd to just sit there watching this Little Tern fish rips you away from the awful thing called society and that makes me very happy.Editing
Its been 3 years since I took this photo and from what I rememeber I used lightroom and cropped it a little and mostly changed the contrast to make it look a little more "arty" and also to bring forth the black lines in the tern hence the name.I'm not a fan of too heavy post-processing....yet. The reason may be that I just haven't put in the time yet to learn all there is to know about editing. In my camera bag
Today I'm very split, I moved to Nikon about a year ago with the D500 and yeah I like it but somewhere inside I think I'm a Canonist. That because my first real step into the world of photography was the 70D and then I got to play with the 1D series and just loved it. So today I mostly shoot everything with a Canon 1DS Mark II and the Canon EF 200 f/1.8 L USM. Its a damn heavy combination but it just reeks quality and that 16Mpixel sensor from 2004 still holds up really well and combined with that lens..........I JUST LOVE IT.Feedback
When it comes to nature I can only say what every other nature photographer says, its all about time. Spend a lotof time in the field and you will see amazing things. Try not to chase the animals let nature take its course and try to be a part of it and amazing things will happen.
