The Sunset was insane! It was actually on the opposite side from this scene, but the clouds went crazy. This was taken right after the moment that I wanted to pack my gear and go, because I thought the colours were done. Right at that moment the sky behind the peaks started burning and I quickly set up my camera and started shooting again. I love this shot because of it's very moody dark atmosphere and the white of the church making great contrast with the rest of the scene.

A7II with Zeiss 55mm f1.8, exposure time: 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

Storybook photo well done

Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken in the beautiful Val di Funes, Dolomites, Italy. The church is the St. Johann's Church.
Time
Taken right after sunset.
Lighting
The lighting in this shot is extremely special. I was shooting this church with the mountain backdrop during sunset. The sunset was on the other side, but it casted a nice glow on the mountain range. When I thought the light was all gone I packed all my gear. But the, the clouds behind the mountain started burning suddenly. I quickly set up my gear again and started shooting, with this as a result. It was very unexpected. I took long and short exposures, but this very long exposure turned out amazing!
Equipment
Sony A7II with my Zeiss 55mm f1.8. Filter is a B+W 110e 10 stops.
Inspiration
I had seen this particular scenery on photos before so it was just on my bucket list.
Editing
I did some processing. Added a lot more contrast to make the church really stand out.
In my camera bag
1 or 2 Sony bodies, a wide angle like the 16-35, zoom like a 70-200 or 135mm prime. And filters.
Feedback
Don't leave the scene too early! I'm experienced regarding this but I was still caught off guard with this one. The afterglow from a sunset can come very unexpected :)
