My little girl playing in the park. I shot her with a 70-200mm 2.8 USM IS lens to achieve the beautiful bokeh. Photographing your own children is an impossible task sometimes. She doesn't want to listen to mom, so I brought her Aunt along to help me get her attention and carry the light. I used an Alien Bees 1800 with a large gridded octobox (my favorite modifier) to light the scene.

Location
I shot this photo at Kearney Park in Fresno, CA. It is seldom very busy and has a lot of trees.Time
I always plan to be on location two hours before sunset. So, if anyone is late or it takes a particularly long time to get the kids and equipment ready, I will still have an hour left to shoot before the sun goes down.Lighting
I usually shoot outdoors with natural light, but I love the look of strobes. When shooting children however, I don't want to over power my subject with light and make it too dramatic, I want it to look more natural. When choosing an angle, I like to get down at their level to shoot. In this situation I was using a studio strobe outside with a large octobox. I had an assistant carrying the light for me, unfortunately toddlers don't sit still, so we followed her around as she played.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 5D MKII and a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8. My strobe was an Alien Bees B1600 with a large gridded octobox powered by a Vagabond Mini.Inspiration
I love shooting my daughter. I hear photographers complain all the time how they are expected to have lots of photos of their children, but it is too difficult or they don't have the time. I am determined to get as many photos of my children as possible before they've decided they've had enough of mom & her camera. My clients photo sessions get put on my calendar and so do my own children's sessions. If I don't put it on the calendar, it won't get done.Editing
Very little post processing went into this photo. Mostly color correction and sharpening. In my camera bag
My camera bag is very simple. I have a Canon 5D MKII, a 24-70mm 2.8, a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 and a Canon 600EX Speedlite.Feedback
I used an off camera fill light and a long lens and wide open aperture to achieve the beautiful bokeh.
