Behind The Lens
Location
At home, Kroonstad, South AfricaTime
Late AfternoonLighting
I used a remote flash at about a 45 degree angle balanced on a flowerpotEquipment
Sony A200 with 18 - 55 kit lens reversed, camera was handheld, and Sony remote flashInspiration
I found this little girl between the petals of a rose I picked for my kitchen, and as I love Salticidae, I simply had to take a couple of snaps before I let her goEditing
Yes, as I shoot RAW, post-processing is necessary, so I brought a little in Lightroom, to make her stand out moreIn my camera bag
The minimum, I switched from Sony to Nikon, as Sony is no longer available in South Africa, so now I only carry my D750 body, 105mm lens and a 55 - 70 kit lens for reverse macroFeedback
You will need extra lighting to give the right amount of contrast between your subject and your background, as a reversed lens tends to be rather close to the subject, so you don't get a whole lot of natural light, especially with faster shutter speeds, which you tend to need with living things; and also, patience, lots of it, keep trying over and over again, it's worth it!
