Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a family members house in Addison, Vermont. They have this gorgeous view looking out over Lake Champlain to New York.

Time

It was just about at sunset. My family and I just finished dinner and started up the fire for a s'mores dessert!

Lighting

The lighting was just what mother nature gave me. Nothing fancy here.

Equipment

I am definitely an amateur photographer so I just had my trusty Canon Rebel Xsi. At the time I think I just had the standard Canon EF-S 18-55 mm that comes with the camera. The walk down to the water was pretty steep so I did not bring my tripod. To balance I just sat on the ground and rested my elbows on my knees.

Inspiration

The lighting was just fantastic! The water looked so calm and peaceful as the fire crackled away. It was a nice contrast to the very loud and energetic dinner my family and I had.

Editing

I did very slight adjustments. Lighten it a bit to see more details. Pumped up the saturation to get the coloring in without making it look unnatural.

In my camera bag

I do not have much. Just my Canon Rebel Xsi with the Canon EF-S 18-55 mm and Canon EF 50 mm lens. I have a pretty basic tripod. Being an amateur I try to borrow and rent lens and lighting.

Feedback

I basically knew I had to shoot quick and not over think it. The sun was setting quick and the fire was strong. There were also a bunch of family members and dogs about to come in and overcrowd the scene.
