Strolling on the walkway at Everglades National Park in Miami, Florida. I recalled that it was very sunny and humid. Clouds started to form at the distant horizon. Lightning began crashing down to the ground and started a brush fire. A huge pile of smoke and ash started rising while pushing the rain clouds up with it. The instability created huge clouds that began to rain heavily. I set up the tripod and began taking a series of bracket shots with +-- 1.3 EV. I returned home to examine the shots and realized that one of them captured what appeared to be a lighting bolt coming down. I decided to take three bracketed shots and generated an HDR image.

You nailed the timing on this. Did you have a trigger device? Gorgeous composition. That cloud is AMAZING!

It was by sheer luck that I caught this. I was planning to create an HDR photo of this and proceeded to take 3 bracketed shots with a +/- 1.3 EV. One of the shots caught it without me even knowing it. It happened in an instant but I felt a jolt but wasn't sure what I got until I went home and began processing it.
