Behind The Lens

Location

This photo is taken in one of the local farms of Ski in Norway. The small city is surrounded by beautiful farms and nature.

Time

I took this photo during my photography class. We all were disappointed because of all the clouds covering the sunrise. Then suddenly the sun shined through the fog, and created stunning light!

Lighting

It was no doubt that i had to capture the beautiful light that was formed. It was extremely soft, and the fog acted like a giant diffuser. In other words, it was the dream of every photographers ;)

Equipment

This was shot with a canon 600D with a samyang 14mm F2.8 attached. It is a cheap, however decent kit for students like myself. I like to be able to freely move as much as possible when i shoot. As a result, I rarely use the tripod.

Inspiration

It was not hard to find inspiration in such beautiful scenery. The horse lined up perfectly for my shot, and i got the photo i wanted. I have always been inspired by the ability to paint with light. It is truly stunning that we can create a visual image with something technical. This is inspiring enough by itself, to document our beautiful world

Editing

I did not do much post-processing on this one. I did some local adjustments to balance the light, but nothing more was needed.

In my camera bag

In my bag i always have it me a Canon 24mm f2,8 pancake lens, Sigma 50mm 1.4, Sigma 10-20mm f4.5-5.6, a Sigma 70-200mm F2.8, a polarizer, a Sigma 105mm Macro and of course my Canon Eos 70D (this shot was taken with my 600D, that fell apart some months ago) . I als carry with me a card stock, a rain jacket and duct tape.

Feedback

Nature photography is much depended on being at the right place at the right time. The most important advice for archiving this, is to always carry with you a camera. In 2013 I did the 365 day project. I quickly learnt the importance of having a camera easily available after this. Useally i carry with me a 70D with the 24mm pancake lens, when I´m in the hurry. With the pancake lens, my camera almost get as small as a hybrid camera. In additional i always have my camera bag ready to go. I ensure that it has empty memory cards and full batteries after I use it. Always remember, there is no such thing as boring light, there is only boring photos.
