Taken at the beautiful Tenaya Lake in Yosemite National Park. I arrived at Yosemite late in the evening with the Milky Way blazing bright just over the Horizon. I set my alarm for a few hours in hopes of catching the perfect alignment for this shot. Due to the long days and this early sunrise I didn't catch the Milky Way at its' brightest but its soft glow compliments the image nicely.

I took this photo in Yosemite National Park.Time
I arrived at Yosemite around 11pm. The Milk Way was not quite where I wanted it to be for the shot I envisioned. I set my alarm for 4am and slept in my car on the side of the road. When i woke up my feet were already going numb from inactivity and temperature. Regardless this is the show Id been waiting for.. I took off my shoes and socks, set the shot, hit my self-timer and walked a into the lake.Lighting
The Milky Way is not as bright in this photo as it would have been if I had decided to compose a shot when I arrived at 11pm. When i woke at 4am the sun was going to rise in a few hours and had gotten every so slightly lighter. I'm happy with the result because this photo is what you might see with the human eye.Equipment
Sony a7r. Rokinon 14mm 2.8. Manfrotto Tripod.Inspiration
The inspiring work of night sky photographers is what initially drew me to hobby. I am always inspired by the stars and being able to capture them. Showing people what it really looks like to look up in a place with no light pollution and encouraging them to get outside has always been a rewarding experience.Editing
I process initially with Adobe Lightroom with basic mechanical adjustments (I stay away from color correction or any major changes until I have blended the exposures.) I used two photos for this shot. One photo was used to include a car's headlight you see faintly lighting up the background. The rest of the photo is 1 exposure. After I blend the photos and use the levels tool for dynamic adjustments, I bring the final image back to Adobe Lightroom and continue my normal workflow from there, which involves minor tweaking of shadow/ highlight, white/ blacks. Sharpening, ect.In my camera bag
As of right now, the absolute essentials in my bag are: a Sony A7r. 35mm 1.4 zeiss Disatagon 14mm 2.8 Rokinon 50mm 1.8 zeissFeedback
There are a lot of great tutorials for night sky photography. I learned from a site called TheLonelySpec by Ian Norman. I think learning about the mechanics and the necessary gear for astrophotography before anything else prepared me to face some of photography's most challenging aspects.
