The photo was taken in Lake Louise, Banff National Park, Alberta. One of the busiest places here in Banff National Park whatever season comes.Time
I am ver fortunate to live and work here n Banff. Lake Louise is 45 minutes drive away from my place, we left in Banff around 5:45 in the morning as the scheduled of the sunrise is 7:15am. When I'm shooting sunrise\sunset i have always maximum of an hour earlier so i have a time to find my composition and do some scouting in the area.Lighting
When we arrive in Lake Louise it was so foggy and a bit cold but it was so calm. While I'm waiting for the right time for sunrise, i did some composition so when the light is up all i want is press the shutter realize and get the shot. 10 minutes before the sunrise the fog start to clear and lined up in the mid ground, it was perfect timing which close to sunrise. Then mr. sun start to light up the peak of the mountain with some amazing colour. It was a quick show but worth it coz i got a shot what i want.Equipment
Iam using Nikon D800 with Nikon 16-35mm F4 lens and Lee Filter system and Format Hitech Filter Glass, 3 stop soft grad for the sky and 6 stop ND Filter to smoothen the water.Inspiration
Lake Louise is photograph more than a thousand time and i saw some photos with a really good light that's why i decided to frequently visit this place until i got the shot i want.Editing
Post Processing is the most critical job in my workflow. You need to remember whats happening when you are shooting so when you do post process you can recall the colours present on the image. I'm using Photoshop CC , ACR and some layer masking technique. In my camera bag
My D800, Nikon 16-35 F4,Nikon 24-70mm and Nikon 50mm 1.8g and Nikon 700-200mm F2.8 VRII just in case i want to shoot only the peak of the mountain. My filter case from LowePro with all my filters from Formatt Hitech and Singh Ray. Shutter release cable from promaster and some cleaning cloth just incase it get wet. Oh and shower cap!!!!! It is really helpful and save your gear too. 3 sandisk 32gb and allen key to tighten my tripod legs and quick release plate.Feedback
Mainly I'm shooting in sunrise\sunset and here is a quick tip that hopefully can help with others. Make sure all your gear is ready, from battery to filters. Know the weather forecast, if it cloudy, rain or clear. Then know where the sun is rising or setting down so you can decide which you want to photograph, the alpenglow or moments of sun while hiding into darkness. About the composition, always find a leading lines or even rocks formation in the foregrounds and follow the rule of third. Avoid negative space when you are composing the shoots. If you are shooting in reflection you can break the rule of third and put the mid ground in the centre of the image.
