Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken at Half Moon Lake Resort just outside of Edmonton Alberta while I was working at the resort.

Time

I had just finished a late shift at the resort and I was walking to the far side of the campground to meet some other workers for a campfire and as the sun sank lower, the sky became this beautiful orange colour. I walked down by the water and got this shot.

Lighting

Sunset, and sunrises for that matter, require some speed to get just the right shot. The colours and light change in an instant so if you're looking to take a sunrise/sunset shot, find your ideal spot ahead of time and get there before the sun does its thing

Equipment

I used my Nikon 5100. I didn't use a tripod, and a 18-105mm lens.

Inspiration

Living at the lake was quite the experience both work wise and sight wise. I spent a lot of time near the lake and in the forest photographing such unique, beautiful sights like this sunset. The lighting outside the city is so clean without the extra city lights. Sounds are so crisp too.

Editing

I let this one be. The colour was already so rich it didn't need anything.

In my camera bag

My Nikon 5100, a 50mm lens, a 18-105mm lens, batteries (I think I have 5-6 just in case) extra SD cards, (nothing sucks more than having a perfect shot and realizing your cards full or you forgot to put it back in your camera after uploading them).

Feedback

Plan your spot and get there early. Take lots of shots because the lighting changes moment to moment.
