I had to privilege to the shoot one of the sweetest, most fun weddings ever! The weekend was terribly rainy and the couple so gracefully handled the ceremony being moved in and out and back inside. Just before the ceremony the bride was sitting in the corner of the bridal suite waiting for all the guests to arrive. it was just a quiet perfect moment in all the busyness of the day. I love the softness of the dress and the shadows and highlights of her shoulders against the crisp lines of the barnwood.

Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at the beautiful Barns at Chip Ridge in Abingdon, VA. I was photographing the most lovely wedding on a very rainy day. The bride was sitting in the corner waiting to find out if we would be able to have the ceremony outside or if it would have to be inside. The light and the shadows were just perfect with the harsh lines of the barnwood against the soft tulle.

Time

It was taken around 4 to 5pm.

Lighting

It was a very rainy cloudy day so the light was perfectly diffused as it came through the huge window in the bridal suite.

Equipment

Canon 6D with Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art

Inspiration

I just loved the way the light was falling on the bride. It was such a peaceful moment in the midst of a busy wedding day.

Editing

I did very basic editing in Lightroom to convert to B/W. I have a preset that gives my images a moody feel with high contrast but softer blacks.

In my camera bag

I shoot with Canon 6Ds right now. My favorite lens is my Sigma 35 1.4 Art right now! It's always on my camera. I also take a Canon 50 1.4, a Canon 50 2.5 macro, and now my favorite creative lens is the Canon 45 2.8 tilt shift!

Feedback

When you go into a wedding day, just keep your eyes open for the little moments and the big moments. Don't try to copy my image or any other image you see on Pinterest. Sure, get inspiration but capture your clients' day in your own unique way and give them images that they are going to love! Tell their story in the details and the big picture. Each moment during their wedding day is deserving of your creativity so use it to capture those moments for them!
