This hidden gem is actually an old feeding house in Everglades National Park, Florida. Still in relatively good shape, this was used to feed deer and other wildlife prior to the area's designation as a national park. We came upon this closely guarded secret just before sundown on a hot, humid south Florida afternoon.

Location
This photo was taken at Everglades National Park in an isolated location among the trees surrounding the Royal Palm Visitor Center.Time
The photo was taken during mid-afternoon, a time normally considered a less desirable time for photography. However, due to the significant tree cover, the lighting was perfect for the desired affect.Lighting
Since the lights was naturally diffused, I was able to choose whatever location I wanted to shoot from. This was fortunate, as the closed-in space around this feeding station didn't allow for much flexibility to move.Equipment
I used my Sony SLT-A58 with a Sony 18-55 lens and Vanguard tripod to capture this photo.Inspiration
This cottage-like building gave me the feeling of some magical, nursery rhyme home amidst the immense, dense surrounding forest. The fact that this secret treasure was just a couple of hundred yards from the visitor center, where thousands of people come every day, made it all the more interesting to me.Editing
Other than cropping and adjusting the contrast a bit, no post-processing was necessary for this photo. In my camera bag
Along with the Sony SLT-A58 and Sony 3.5-5.6/18-55 lens I carry a pair of Minolta lenses...a 70-210 and a 28-100.Feedback
I think the best advice for shots like this is to be prepared. You need to be open to straying off the beaten path (or you're just getting the same photos everyone else is) and have the proper gear with you. Sometimes you won't have a chance to get back to a place and not having the right gear means you've missed an opportunity. As a side note, while I have been back to this location (when I could find the trail), the forest undergrowth has reclaimed much of the area around the feed station. That means, even though I can get back there, the ability to take this shot has been lost. So be prepared the first time...it may be the only chance you get.
