It was a sunny day.Equipment
Lumix GH2 and Lumix 100-300mm lens. The ganet colony in the island has a very dense bird polulation. They are on top of each other. You are allowed to shoot behind a parameter. The challenge in taking a close up portrait like this is very much there. Especially single one bird standing out and end up with a great uncluttered creamy yet interesting background.Inspiration
We were there a bunch of us photographers. I wanted to photograph such ganet's portrait. Most of the time you see photos of them in flight, feeding, fighting for their territory... I have an entire range of shots regarding this location from that day who will show more about the habitat of this birds during their mating season. Mother and baby, how they are cramped on top of each other, grooming each other. etc etc.Editing

When I travel I like to travel light. I used to travel with heavy equipment. No more. I love my Lumix Gh2, I own several Lumix lenses, I also have a dedicated Lumix Infrared camera. Plus my Samsung Galaxy S6 which I adore using at days I don't want to carry anything.Feedback
My advice is, you start watching the species' behavior patterns. Observe before even you start clicking that shutter out of pure excitement. I come from slide and film era. I have always thought and composed before clicking that shutter. I almost always compose in camera. I observe the light. I often like overcast days. Clouds are God's natural soft box. Photography first and foremost is all about the study of light. Then it all about composition. A photo should speak to us. I am a portraitist by trade. If a photo creates a strong emotion in the viewer, positive or even negative, if it makes them stop and look more, it is a successful one.
