This photo was taken in zoo, named Kamatibaug, Vadodara. This is a very famous and old zoo in the city of Vadodara,Gujarat,India. This zoo is very big and has a very large collection of different animals and birds.Time
This photo was taken at midday and it was a really hot day. The leopard was in his cage behind the bars and was probably excited to see me !!Lighting
The leopard was in his cage behind the bars, and the cage was relatively dark and shady. The leopard was constantly changing his position. So I had to use a very fast shutter speed and a high ISO. It was just a fraction of a second that the leopard gave me the look with the killer instinct and I could capture the direct eye contact. Lucky me !!Equipment
This was shot on a Pentax dslr K 30 model, with 55-300 mm wr pentax lens. It was a handheld shot with only natural daylight.Inspiration
It was a holiday and I took my kids to the zoo. I had also taken my camera to capture some expected and unexpected moments. The leopard with its killer looks and compositions was really mesmerizing and intimidating. I was very much impressed by the graceful animal and instantly wanted a pic of it. I had to wait for quite some time to get the shot and it was a very difficult job with my naughty kids running all around !!Editing
Yes, the leopard was in the shadow and behind the bars of the cage. So I had to crop the shot, increase the shadows, sharpened the eyes and increased the clarity, everything done in Lightroom. In my camera bag
Most of the time I have my Pentax dslr K 30 and one of my two pentax lens 55-300mm and 18-135mm.I also have a nd grade filter and a set of closeup filter in my bag for occasional closeup macro. I like to travel light !Feedback
Animals are always interesting and unique in their appearance and behavior. So we have to be patient and ever ready to capture the moments. Also a faster shutter speed and raw shooting helps. One also needs to be a bit lucky as animal mood is unpredictable and it may not give the required pose or composition.
