This photo was taken during the 2014 National Cherry Blossom festival in Washington D.C.Time
Photography addicts tend to do strange things they normally wouldn't do if they didn't have a camera in their hand. One of those things for me is waking up a couple hours before sunrise to take your chances with what Mother Nature will give you for a sunrise. This shot was taken around 6:30 am on April 11th, 2014.Lighting
With sunrise shots you usually have to take what is given to you. This was taken the brief moment before the sun makes an appearance and the sky is filled with colors. (if you're lucky)Equipment
Taken with a Canon 5D MIII with the Tamron 24-70 mm Lens. Induro tripod was used for the shot at well.Inspiration
The National Cherry blossom festival and the cherry trees around the tidal basin are a big draw for photographers from all over the world. It's hard to go wrong with the blossoms and National Memorials in the picture.Editing
This is a HDR image crated from 3 different exposures that were taken at the time. I used Nik HDR efex Pro 2 to do the initial blending. I then opened it up in Photoshop CS6 to do further editing to the image. Other plugins such as Nik Color Efex Pro were used as well.In my camera bag
When I head out for images I try to have the main ranges covered. I usually have the Canon 17-40 f4, Tamron 24-75 F2.8, and Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS with me. A tripod is a must for early/late shots.Feedback
With sunrise shots you've just have to keep trying. Each one is different and the best ones are hard to come by. With framing try to create some interest with lines that help direct the eye to the subject of the photo. I would love to expand more or editing tips but I must get to bed so I can get up early for the next sunrise. :) You've just got to keep on shooting.
