B-e-u-tiful. I love butterflies. This is an awesome capture. Thanks for sharing this one. I have alot of butterfly photos but not as focused as this. Nice colors.

Location
This photograph was taken in our garden in South Africa 6 years ago. It was one of the very first decent photos I'd taken with the Christmas present I was given two years ago, a shiny new Canon 500D (my very first DSLR camera).Time
This image is a particular favourite of mine because of its serendipitous nature, I was taking photos of plants, flowers and anything else I found on my walk and happened upon this scene for a fleeting moment one sunny afternoon at 13:16 on the 30th April 2011.Lighting
The lighting was perfectly natural because if was outside (and it was a stunning day), fortunately the sunlight was diffused through the leaves of a tree overhead which added to the subtle highlights.Equipment
This shot was taken with a handheld Canon 500D and nothing elseInspiration
I have always loved photography and receiving my Canon 500D opened up a whole new world of endless possibilities... My greatest love was taking photos of nature and butterflies are art in motion so combining the two came together naturally and beautifully.Editing
Post-processing wasn't too complicated, I simply adjusted the white balance, sharpened the image slightly and adjusted tonal mapping. In my camera bag
I have a very simple kit I take everywhere with me, convenience is key if you want to be ready for any opportunities in nature. I have a tripod, Canon 760D with one spare battery, Canon EFS 18-200mm lens, UV filter, CPL filter and cleaninig kit. The rest of my kit for more spesialised shoots includes a Canon ET-83D 100-400mm lens with a CPL filter, Canon EFS 18-55mm lens with macro filters, a Sigma flash, two extra tripods and my trusty Canon 500D.Feedback
One can never tell when the next perfect shot will present itself. Always have your settings set correctly before you start and ensure your shutter speed is high for action shots (because there is nothing more disappointing than a almost perfect action shot that's blurry). And most of all be patient!
