A revisit to a location that I photographed last year but had overlooked the image. This is an avenue of trees that line the Bregagh Road in Northern Ireland. The beech trees have been suffering in recent years and more and more gaps are appearing in the very atmospheric line up. On a recent visit I noticed that new saplings have been planted but will take a long time to bridge the gaps left...but maybe one day it will return to its splendour.

This is absolutely magical - the stuff fairy tales are made of. I've never seen anything like this and you've captured it so very well. Thank you for sharing!

Love the way the light hits the branches, particularly the mid- right one... just magical Andy. Bravo!

Wonderful shot. Looks like the road into Sleepy Hollow 200 years ago.

Behind The Lens

Location

This avenue of Natural Beech Trees is in the heart of County Antrim and known worldwide as 'The Dark Hedges'.

Time

This was taken around 8am just as the early morning mist was clearing.

Lighting

Waiting for the right moment here is vital. If it's flat and grey i just drive on.

Equipment

Taken on my Nikon D800 with a 70-200mm F2.8 and manfrotto tripod.

Inspiration

I love this location and spending a few quiet moments capturing the magic and mystery of the place.

Editing

I did very little processing just enough to bring out the detail in the tree canopy.

In my camera bag

D800, D810, 24-70mm F2.8, 70-200mm F2.8 and a 50mm F1.4

Feedback

Patience and visit early morning to avoid the tourist busses.
