Nature finds a way everywhere. That's what beautiful about it. This little poppy was growing in a pavement crack on a street just in front of the building where I used to live when I was in Sheffield, England. Accordingly, Sheffield is the greenest city in England.

Location
I took this picture outside the building where I used to live in Sheffield, England. I loved roaming the streets in search of photo opportunities.Time
I remember I convinced my wife to go outside for a stroll after coming back from work. It was Summer so there was still some natural light outside. We walked just around the corner and found this beautiful poppy. It was late in the evening, around 9pmLighting
I wanted to capture the essence of the scene as it was. There was a lamp post nearby but since there was still plenty of natural light, the artificial lighting wasn't very intruding. I included another lamp post in the distance to create a spot of bokeh.Equipment
I shot this with my Sony A57 camera and the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 lens.Inspiration
I was inspired by the sheer beauty and delicacy of the poppy. Its red petals stood out against the grey concrete. It added a touch of life to the gloomy street.Editing
I always shoot RAW, so yes I always do some editing afterwards. I increased the saturation and added a vignette. Removed a bit of noise and sharpened the image. All done in Lightroom. In my camera bag
I used to carry my Sony A57, tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 and a 35mm lens everywhere. I've now switched to Nikon and it's the same story. Although instead of the Tamron lens I carry the kit lens: 18-140mmFeedback
I don't think it's difficult to capture a scene like this one. Just head out to the streets, roam around but do it early in the morning or late in the evening when there's better light!
