This is a plant in the milkweed family (Asclepiadaceae) native to Mexico. I grew this plant from seed planted late 2012. It has a nice corky caudex.

It was a cool day, just before sunset and I was able to get quite close. The flower is Impatiens tuberosa.

I shot this just as the sun was setting and a shadow had just touched the Monarch. I sized it as Wallpaper.
