This shot was captured in what I like to call my 'Happy Place'!! I am a self taught photographer and love to wander through my Island home capturing the beauty around me. This particular spot is Ferry Reach in St. Georges on the beautiful island of Bermuda. The Longtail is Bermudas national bird which made this a special capture for me.Time
I had been getting up early every day just to go out and watch these birds. As sea birds they spend most of their time out at sea, and only come to shore to mate. The longtail, for us here in Bermuda, is a sure sign that spring is in the air. Early morning was when they seemed to be especially active.Lighting
I was not sure about how this would turn out as the day started some what sunny but turned quickly. The clouds rolled in and with it the morning light became more defused. Concerns of the Longtail blending into the back ground were unfounded in post.Equipment
The only equipment used for this shot was a Canon 6D with 70-300mm Canon lens. And lots of patience!Inspiration
I had just purchased the Canon 6D and was excited to try it out!! I thought what better way to do this then some fast moving birds!! I think the 6D did very well!!Editing
Yes. I boosted the brightness along with some contrast and also added some sharpening. All in Lightroom.In my camera bag
in my bag I now carry the Canon 5d m111 along with the 6D with the 70-300mm and a 24-105mm Canon lens.Feedback
Come to Bermuda!!. Bermuda is a photographers paradise!! Beauty is all around. But for shots like this you do have to spend a little time in one spot and getting to know these creatures just a bit. I do recommend packing lots of patience in your camera bag as well as equipment!!
