Behind The Lens

I took this photo in a very small recently planted forest in West Friesland Holland.
It had been a stressful day at work and I needed to clear my mind, so I went to a smalltown forest at the end of the day. As the clouds disappeared, the sun lit the forest from a low angle and set this little fungus on fire... I saw it shining from a distance!
This is a natural shot, the sunlight was filtered beautifully by the trees in the forest and it was only a matter of choosing the right angle to take the photo in the direction of the sun allowing the light to shine through this wonderful and rare elf cap fungus.
I have a Lumix DMC-TZ60, all my photos are taken with this little miracle of a camera... it shows that you don't need an expensive camera with a lot of equipment to make good quality photos. The best thing about this camera is that it has a good Leica lens and it is very easy to carry with you because it practically fits in your back pocket.
The wonderful sunlight at the end of the day was inspiring me as I decided to go to the forest to cool off from a very stressful day. I was walking towards the sun when I saw in the distance a few very rare elf cap fungus glowing in the sun... I tried to capture the glow of warm red light that made my day and calmed my mind!
This was a natural shot, hardly any post-processing was done, I only cropped the photo and played a little bit with the contrast.
In my camera bag
I don't have any equipment in my bag (yet) I am a beginning photographer and I am learning to use a camera, to look for the good light, composition and point of view. One day when I know how to use and set the camera well enough, I will start to think about a bag filled with technical things instead of the need to understand how it works first...
The lighting in this photo is realy crucial... The sun was standing low at the horizon and I shot in the direction of the sun but not straight into it! I was laying on the wet forest floor as low as possible and took a lot of photo's at slightly different angles. The result was about 5 nice shots with the right colour, sharpness and light. I tried to keep a bit of distance to have a wider depth of sharpness and cropped the photo later to the size I liked. Don't place the subject in the middle because it will be a static composition... try different croppings and choose the best one later the next day so you can have a fresh look at your compositions!
