Location
I took this photo on Big Island, Hawaii, back in january 2013.Time
This photo was taken in the early morning before sunrise.Lighting
The goal was to get there before first light to see the incredible colors of the lava. It is so much better at night. Anyway, I was hoping for some sunrise colors as well, but it didnt happen.Equipment
I used my Canon 5D II with the 17-40mm lens mounted and of course a tripod and my remote control.Inspiration
This experience was incredible and will last forever. Volcanoes fascinate me and there are a lot of inactive volcanoes around the world you can hike or whatever, but there are only a few places on our planet where you can see the lava flow and here it even flows into the ocean. I couldnt miss it.Editing
This shot is a single raw long exposure. Post processing is hold to a minimum. Its actually out of camera. Just a bit of sharpening and light up the shadows. Thats it.In my camera bag
I normally have the following equipment in my bag: - Canon 5D II - Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 II L - Remote Control (sometimes two if one stops working) - Filters of all types - Tripod - BatteriesFeedback
Plan your shot before you go. Do you want to shoot a location at sunrise, sunset or at night ? Figure out which part of the day provides the best light for your photo. Then go out and explore. Go to your location and hang around for a while to find different perspectives and get in touch with the location. Go around and find angles not have seen before. Enjoy the place you go to.
