Location
I took this photo in Coaldale, a small town in the south-east of Alberta, Canada. I have a passion for birds. They are extraordinarily hard to shoot. You have to have heaps of patience. They never stay still for long!!! So, just shoot and shoot and shoot some more!!!! The scenery is stunning. There are heaps of opportunities here to capture some awesome scenery and wildlife.Time
It was early afternoon. It was a pretty hot, sunny summer day in May of this year. This year Alberta has been pretty dry and hot.Lighting
I was lucky on this occasion to have some shade behind the bird to highlight him. There was enough sun anyways. I think I have a pretty good eye.Equipment
I am a Canon girl. I used a Canon EF 100 Macro mm lens together with my trusty Canon EOS Rebel SL1 camera with the sunshade. No tripod on this occasion.Inspiration
Was wanting to take the perfect shot. Hey, we all are. The owl just seemed to almost "pose". Just look at his eyes. How often does that happen? Have been to this location on previous occasions and everything this time just seemed to be perfect - the lighting, the subject. As I said previously, I do have a passion for birds of all kinds. Eagles, hawks, owls are just amazing and fascinating. I am always inspired by guys like Austin Stevens. Wow, if I could be anything remotely close. Continue to learn. Never stop. Be always humble. Strive to get there. Ask the question of others who know more than you. Am constantly learning from others.Editing
Post-processing was pretty minimal. I am fully into texture/definiton and sharpness. There was some very slight modification in terms of the colour rendering. In my camera bag
My Canon EOS Rebel SL1. I have various lens I use depending on the location and type of photography - wildlife, landscape, nature, macro. I have my Canon EFS 18-55mm lens and a zoom lens, too - 75-300mm. My tripod also comes with.Feedback
Patience is definitely the key. Trial and error. Just keep shooting. You know, for sure, when you have the best shot on that day. Continue to learn. Be fearless. Ask questions . There are heaps of amazing resources out there. Ask the Pro guys on Viewbug....what equipment did you use, etc.... Never ever give up and never stop learning.
