Location
This photo was taken at the Manasquan Reservoir in New Jersey. I was actually setting up my boat for fishing when I noticed the sun breaking through the fog. Fortunately I had my camera nearby to capture the moment.Time
This photo was taken approximately 6:30am on a morning that was exceptionally calm for this reservoir which runs a mile wide and about 2 miles long.Lighting
It was a totally foggy morning as I set out for a morning of fishing. Once I arrived at the reservoir the fog started lifting a bit and the rising sun started to burn through the haze allowing me to capture the moment.Equipment
This particular photo was shot with a Canon Powershot G1 camera......hand held...no flash.Inspiration
It was the special lighting provided by the early morning sun breaking through the haze on a rare calm morning that spoke "this is why I fish" better than any words could have.Editing
Sometimes it takes a series of shots at different settings to hopefully capture a moment the way my mind envisioned the scene. In this particular case it was one shot.....no post-processing, with all the credit to "mother nature" and the good folks at Canon who design and assemble these wonderful cameras. In my camera bag
Currently I have switched over to a Canon EOS Rebel T5i camera. My "go to" lens is a Canon EF 24-105mm 1:4 My other two lenses are Canon Macro lens EF 100mm 1:2.8 L IS and Canon lens EF 100-400mm 1:4.5-5.6 L ISFeedback
Any advice I would offer would only echo tried and true advice given to me.....for best lighting, go early in the day or late afternoons. Have an idea in mind as to what you are looking for...but more importantly be open-minded should other opportunities present themselves. There used to be an old TV ad for a credit card company that said "don't leave home without it"...the same goes for your camera.
