Very creative but would have been even better if you had cropped the photo so the rose wasn't dead center.....JUST a thought..

Behind The Lens

Location

If i remember rightly, this photo was captured in my mother-in-laws back garden on a beautiful summers day.

Time

The time of this capture would be during the afternoon between the hours of 12:00-15:00. The light was just right and the little ants really helped in giving this rose some character

Lighting

The lighting was completely natural, no flash used, just the midday sun.

Equipment

At the time of this photograph I was using a Sony SLT-A65V, Sony SAL1680Z lens and a Sony tripod. No filters or flash used.

Inspiration

This was an unplanned photograph, I was experimenting with my camera and settings, whilst round my mother-in-laws for sunday dinner, Yum Yum! These pink roses were beautiful and I has set my camera up on the tripod and shot away noticing the little ants.

Editing

Yes, in Photoshop Elements 13 I had adjusted the tonal range and used some black & white enhancements to just highlight the pink of the rose.

In my camera bag

Sony SLT-A65V, Sony SAL1680Z, Sony HVL-F60 Flash, Sling Bag, Various batteries including rechargeable Panasonic batteries, Pro-Hoya filters, Remote triggers, Sony high speed SD-Cards, Cleaning Kit, Sony Tripod (too be replaced soon with a Manfroto).

Feedback

My advice for a photograph like this, is you don't always need to travel too far to capture some beautiful flowers, just look in your garden. Also don't always follow the rules, I ignored the 'thirds' concept in this photograph and decided to centre my rose, if we all followed the same rules, photographs would all look the same! Have fun and be creative
