Behind The Lens

Location

"I took this photo in Pittsburgh Pa.,at the nursing home where my dear Aunt Charlotte was living. I was sitting vigil by her death bed. I took a break and went outside to catch my breath and this was what I saw on the porch of the nursing home. I knew then that the angels were there for her. She died shortly after this photograph was taken." I shot two series that I called "Saints on the Radiator" and the other, "Charlotte on her way to her own funeral."

Time

"This photo was taken at the beautiful hour that all photographer love...when the sun starts to set."

Lighting

I always like to shoot with natural light. I usually have one of my camera's with me, even if it's just an iphone. I never use a flash but will use filters if needed.

Equipment

I took this photo with the iphone 5.

Inspiration

I loved my Aunt Charlotte very much. I was so very sad that she was dying. She was 97 years old. I lived with her for awhile when I was a child. Charlotte was like a second mother to me. She was so there for me as a child, I promised myself I would take good care of her until the end of her life.

Editing

I did use a filter because the sun was a little bit more difuse. This sharpened the rays more.

In my camera bag

I always have my iphone 6s and my Panasonic Lumix F 2.8 25-600mm optical zoom. When plan to go out and shoot, I take my Canon EOS 5D Mark III.

Feedback

Keep your heart and eyes open to what speaks to you. I don't set out to make a photo, I wait for it to appear. Most of my work comes from the depths of my feelings. I would also say, don't be afraid to shoot with any camera.
