Location
This was taken in the beautiful gardens of a neighbor (New Hampshire) who is a horticulturist.Time
This was taken during a photo shoot during the hours of 9am-11:30 am.Lighting
We were very fortunate to have lovely soft cloud cover on this summer morning. The lighting was perfect. I am a natural light photographer so I treasure days like this!Equipment
I used my Nikon AF S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 G ED VR II lens for this on a Nikon D7000 body. No filters or flashes or tripods were necessary. Focal length was 190mm.Inspiration
I have been inspired by a number of fine art photographers in recent months and study different techniques and styles. As a result I've developed my own style which is constantly evolving of course. My new photography business got it's jump start by offering freebie photo sessions to friends and neighbors. This was session was done for a friend and requests have since been pouring in from their friends for 'magical' photo shoots.Editing
I have been using Lightroom for over a year as well as other software for post processing. This year I started using Photoshop CC which has added a whole new dimension to my work. I use layers, textures, overlays and more to enhance my images. In my camera bag
I recently purchased a Nikon D610 body which is currently my go-to camera body with the D7000 as a back up. My other lenses include a 50mm 1.4, NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED Lens, AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED and a few filters, back up batteries, chargers, cable release, tripod and monopod.Feedback
I go to sessions with 8-10 scenarios in mind and bring along the appropriate props. This particular model was very responsive. We basically played in the gardens, trying on different outfits and hair pieces. Making it fun and relaxed for my subjects is key as well as being clear and concise with directions. Of course with children, the fewer the directions the better. I like to let them be themselves. Keep an eye on backgrounds before setting up the shot and lighting is key. Try to avoid shadows and aim for nice even light. The bottom line, have fun with your subjects and their personalities will begin to emerge. Capturing each unique personality is so rewarding.
