Awe inspiring at it's best. Wonderful lighting, great find. If I may...."Personally, I love foggy mornings. There is just something mysterious about a morning that tries to hide so much from you." (author unknown)

Thank you and I was doing just that. It was very eerie in the fog and while no one was around, I did find myself looking behind to make sure no one was sneaking up on me!

Location
This photo was taken at the city dock in Annapolis, Maryland.Time
It was taken at 4:22 A.M. in mid January 2014.Lighting
I used the available light from the street lamps along the dock and the fog diffused the lamps which produced a nice soft glow.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon EOS REBEL T1i with the EF-S 18mm-55mm lens it came with. The tripod used was a old Vivitar VPT-360.Inspiration
I was driving home on the highway and noticed pockets of fog in the area. Deciding to see if I could find some interesting shots, I ended up at the city dock with absolutely no one else around. It was quiet and spooky which made for a fun shoot.Editing
Post-processing was done in both Lightroom and Photoshop. In Lightroom, I made adjustments using the basic and tone curve panels as well as adding split toning. Straightening and cropping were done and a little post-crop vignetting was added. File conversion was done in Photoshop. In my camera bag
I've upgraded a little since I took this shot. Currently I carry a Canon 6D as my main camera and a Canon 40D as my spare. I usually have the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM attached for shots I want to get quickly. Other lenses I keep in my bag are Canon's EF 50mm f/1.2L USM and EF 40mm f/2.8 STM. Two Canon 600EX-RT Speedlites also occupy space in my bag.Feedback
Capturing shots in foggy conditions can be tricky. The thicker the fog, the more it will diffuse light creating a softbox type of light in the scene. Longer exposure times may be needed due to less light overall but not too long because fog is moving which can cause the fog to look blurry in the image. Fog can also affect Automatic White Balance, so if you're not shooting in RAW then you may want to try setting your white balance to cloudy/overcast to produce a little warmer image. Fog reflects light and built-in camera meters measure reflected light instead of ambient light which can produce underexposed images. This can be corrected by adjusting the exposure compensation in your camera settings.
