I am left breathless by your underwater images. I have only shot underwater through glass walls so far. How did you do these shots?

hi, sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I shoot with a canon 7D mark ii in a CMT water housing. lightweight carbon fibre and rated to 15m its perfect for this sort of thing.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo down in the local salt water creek actually haha.

Time

We headed down early in the morning before too much light to over expose what i wanted and it was also cloudy which really helped darken the image.

Lighting

I purposely under exposed this shot to darken the background and make her in stark relief to the water and surface.

Equipment

a 7D mark ii with a token 10-17mm fisheye and CMT water housing

Inspiration

I have always been fascinated by the way light bends and shifts through water, also the way it can pull the eye into a picture much easier than other forms. Then there is the whole, who wouldn't want to photograph a mermaid?

Editing

adjusted the shadows and blacks to be deeper and upped the contrast

In my camera bag

My water housing goes where i go! I always do a check the night before to make sure my lenses are clean and my cards are empty and my batteries are full. Preparation beats talent when talent isn't prepared.

Feedback

Take full advantage of the fact that memory cards can be wiped, shoot EVERYTHING and try ANYTHING.
