Location
This photo was taken in the Black Hills above Deadwood, South Dakota on the Mickelson Trail.Time
This photo was taken on a very cold October morning. A snow storm had come through the area in the days prior, and although the back drop is filled with green trees, the ground was covered in snow. This made for the perfect lighting in the early morning sunrise.Lighting
I find that snow cover and cloudy skies make for the most alluring and sometimes even ominous photographs. A lot of my favorite shots consist of dreary conditions because that is when I find the light is perfect.Equipment
This was shot with my Nikon D3100. I used my zoom lens to bring the fine details of the old rusty car to the photo.Inspiration
I love to find beauty in things others tend to overlook. This rusty, broken down old car, sitting in the middle of nowhere, hold stories that we will never know. But I hope to have captured a moment that others may stop and notice and even for a moment think about the story behind “Rustic Memories”Editing
I did a little post editing. I wanted to bring the colors out a little bit and I hoped to make the fine details very visible in the final product. I am very happy with how it came out.In my camera bag
My bag has several lenses, some cleaning supplies, a couple of hoods and of course a couple of back up batteries and SD cards!Feedback
Just look for things that you pass by every single day and never look at twice. That random item has beauty in it somewhere - you just have to find it. Once you find it, play with your angles. Take as many shots as you need until you are confident you have at least one you are happy with.
