I wish she wasn't wearing anything up top--just the hat & the socks. But well done none-the-less! LOVE, love, love the lighting! (Should have taken out those few hairs on her left --our right--shoulder!) Nice effect.

Location
In my studio space (in reality a friends hotel, i get to use one of their function rooms if they arent busy) .. white vinyl backdrop as a background,Time
We had a half day shoot.. trying out a few different ideas (this being one of them).. i think this was one of the later ideas that we tried..Lighting
For this shot I used a "Lightblaster" to project the chequered background not the white vinyl. The Light blaster uses a standard camera lens (24mm-70mm on this @24mm) . In front i used a Elinchrom quadra in a octabox as the key light. with a speedlight lower down to project some fill light into the shadows. All quite simple really.Equipment
Canon 1Dx on this image, i think it was new to me so i used there, i would normally use a 5D mk3 for studio work. I used the 70-200mm f2.8 lens at 100mm - which is one of my favourite focal distances to shoot portraits.Inspiration
I had seen an idea on another site somewhere which i wanted to try - but i wanted to make it my own so changed the styling a bit and i knew the Lightblaster could give me a very different background so just worked on this with a few other poses and this one just came about as part of the shoot.. i think thats the nature of shoots - you get inspiration from other images - then when you come to a shoot you create your own loosely based on the idea.. it evolves.Editing
a bit of work on skin, mono conversion and this particular one a tighter crop - boosting contrast to get the black as bold as i could. All done via lightroom and then photoshop. In my camera bag
Mainly Canon gear, bodies and a range of lenses, and speed lights, Elinchrom quadra flash, triggered with pocket wizards.. i try not to take too much if i can help it..Feedback
Experiment - try different lighting ideas - get some bold clothing / styling.. look for some mystery in the posing.. rather than straight face on shots.. keep things simple and don't be frightened to go in close - cropping in tight has made this image ... the wider shot is popular but this one gets the most comments..
