Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in a corn field just south of Cortland, Nebraska

Time

Taken at sunset in mid August...around 830 pm

Lighting

My goal to use the hot August sun setting behind the corn, as a contrast to the cool water spraying from the pivot, to create a hot n cold shot that the viewer could almost feel. I think I came close.

Equipment

Used a Nikon d80 with a sigma 80-200mm lens set on a tripod

Inspiration

Travelling around the country side outside of Lincoln, Nebraska, looking for things that draw my eye... that would be something interesting and unique to shoot. This pivot running on the small hill definitely did that. I shot over 200 images of this runing pivot for over a hour as the sun moved across the sky.

Editing

Yes. This was a 3 shot bracket utilizing JPEG images vs RAW. I liked the smoothness of JPEG vs the crispness of the RAW. I also tweaked the white balance and the shadow depth and cropped it.

In my camera bag

I carry Nikon cameras (D80 & D90 with an assortment of nikkor and sigma , lenses from 10mm wide angle to the f/2.8 200mm. I also always have my ND filter close by.

Feedback

Work to anticipate the movement of the sun, the pivot body and the jets of water to get the shot. Have a ND filter handy as well as bug spray per the massive amount of Mosquitos that dwell in fields with 6' tall corn.
