I was shooting along the Minnesota north shore of Lake Superior this day. I was mainly watching for birds. The fog had rolled in and out all day. I looked away and inland from the shore and this was the scene, the sun, wrapped in fog and the pristine pines outlined in it.

Behind The Lens

Location

Minnesota's north shore of Lake Superior, in Superior Natl Forest.

Time

Late afternoon.

Lighting

I was shooting images of Lake Superior when behind me to the west the sun was dimly shining thru the heavy fog bank we had rolling in and out all day.

Equipment

This was taken in 2005 or 06 so I was using an early Pentax DSLR.

Inspiration

My love of the northern pine and Birch forests, great Lakes, canoeing, hiking and camping.

Editing

I lightened the FG a little to get more balanced detail there and added a little sharpening to get the gentle outline of the backlit pine tree tops.

In my camera bag

Presently and for awhile now I've been using a Nikon DSLR.

Feedback

Before going out into the field, I set my camera to the lighting conditions I will be shooting in. ISO, cloudy, sunny, low light, etc. That way when a great subject opportunity presents itself I am ready and need only a little exposure adjustment if necessary. You never know when a great nature shot will present itself!
