This photo was take at my barn as the horse stepped out of her stall to go to the pasture. You can see the 'dark' barn in the back.Time
I took this picture in the morning around 9 am as the morning sun just came out. The horses just finished their breakfast. There was a lovely breeze going.Lighting
I love taking picture in the morning light. We have a forest and pond on the other side of the barn. Just when the sun rises over the treeline and some rays hit the pond it does create this special light - not too bright - just right. The same hold true just before sunset. Every color appears to be more intense.Equipment
I used the Nikon D7000 with settings f/ 4.8 1/800 sec ISO 800 135mm. I used no other equipment. No photo software has been used enhance this picture.Inspiration
A little background to the horse and our communication. This is my 22 year old Trakehner mare. I got her as a very scared 4 year old green broke horse. There was a lot of patience and trust building that had to be done first. She finally accepted me as her leader and followed my guidance. She developed to be a beautiful dressage horse. She worked hard for 15 years. Each ride she aimed to please and to gain that praising reward. Now as a senior horse she has earned her retirement with honors. Her content and trusting expression inspired me to take this picture. What a journey we had at this point together. At the end she was the teacher that helped me to be a better person.Editing

I love my Nikon D7000. Since I take a lot of pictures of 'flying things' I love my 55 - 300 mm lens. This allows me to be on the move and part of the action. I use my 18 - 105 mm lens for landscape or close ups. I have the Micro 85 mm, if I want to have an 'eye to eye' moment. I just started to use recently the SB 700 flash for night shots.Feedback
As a dressage rider I had to learn early on to have patience and focus. While taking picture you also have to have patience and inner peace. It is important to wait for the right light and/or the right moment. My goal is to 'help' others to see what I see. Pictures say more than 1,000 words. In order to capture the expression or that special moment I try to focus and 'report' what takes place right here and now. Go out and see with open eyes the wonderful things that the world offers us.
