Location
The photo was taken at a wedding in Cornwall. I was backtracking and shooting as the bridal couple walked towards me whilst guests threw confetti.Time
I captured this photo early afternoon. It was a lovely sunny day with drifting clouds in the sky blowing off the sea behind.Lighting
I was shooting with the sunlight coming from high left. This was perfect for lighting up the children and guests faces as well as partially lighting the bride and groom. Was excited to capture the detail and richness of colours.Equipment
Nikon D3s and a 16-35mm f4.0 lens.Inspiration
I shot the scene using a wide angle on the zoom lens. I was looking capture the movement and action of the moment and was looking for the pieces of confetti to blow toward the lens. Just capturing the flower girls hand extended linked perfectly to the grooms outstretched hand. Fortunately it came together.Editing
Yes I converted the RAW file using Lightroom and the completed final processing in Photoshop. I brightened the shadows a bit, added some punch to the colours and enhanced the lens vignette. In my camera bag
I always make sure I have my 50mm 1.8 and 16-35mm f4.0 lens in my bag. Attached to my Nikon D3s they can captured most situations that are thrown at me. I also carry a 70-200mm f 2.8 for those situations that need a bit of distance and a Nikon flash for the wedding reception when the light drops. I also always make sure I have a back up camera body and extra batteries!Feedback
Weddings are always presenting the unexpected. Shooting documentary style captures the real moments and emotions perfectly. However, planning is essential to get the right shot. I always think about the composition I'm after which sets my shooting position and anticipate what might happen by taking notice of the wedding guests around me and not by just focusing on the bride and groom. Listening as well as seeing is essential in such situations.
