Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the hall of Edinburgh College

Time

It was evening and i had no much time before sunset.

Lighting

Light was quite soft because of a cloudy sky that evening. I have managed to find a nice, big window but had to use quite high ISO to get proper exposure

Equipment

I have used Canon 5D Mk II and canon 24-70mm f2.8. No tripod or flash was used

Inspiration

This photo was supposed to be a documentation of a make up that a friend of mine had to prepare as she was attending a make up artist course

Editing

The only post-processing was brightening the photo a bit because of a low light and toning the skin.

In my camera bag

Since i started to concentrate more on portraits i use canon 85mm f1.2 that gives me a beautiful sharp images and a nice bokeh, canon 5D Mk III and 24-70mm f2.8 for more flexibility. I also keep a speedlight 600EX RT just in case i need it and sometimes take my 70-200 f2.8 L as it was always my favourite lens

Feedback

Try to find the best source of natural light and pose the model in the right angle creating 3D look on the image with nice shadows and highlights. Using the light incorrectly will make the image look unnatural and boring.
