Very interesting shot. I've been in that location numerous times and you've definitely shot a unique perspective!

Behind The Lens

Location
The photo is showing the iconic Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. It was taken on a parking lot near Fort Point.
Time
It was taken at the late afternoon about 5pm.
Lighting
It was a cloudy day but sometimes the sun was breaking trough. Technical data: 1/320s f 9.0 ISO 100
Equipment
I used my Nikon D800 with AF-S NIKKOR 50 mm 1:1,8G. It was mounted on a Gitzo tripod with Arca head.
Inspiration
Every tourist is shooting this famous bridge. I wanted to bring in something different. When I saw this fence made out of old heavy chains, I was noticing that it has the similar bow. I have to try out various positions to find the perfect one. At the end I have chosen a very low position to get the right angle on the chain and the bridge. I think it is not very important to see the whole bridge. One pillar is enough to know which bridge this is.
Editing
I use Photoshop and Nik Sliver Efex for most of my monochrome-pictures. With photoshop I do the basic adjustments like croping, dust removal etc. Then I use Silver Efex for the conversion. I my oppion it's the best tool for that, because you can control every single area of your photo in a very convinient way. In this case I increased the contarst of the chain. After that I was intensing the clouds to bring more drama in.
In my camera bag
On my travels I have my Nikon D800 and some lenses: AF-S NIKKOR 50 mm 1:1,8G, AF-S NIKKOR 80–400 mm 1:4,5–5,6G ED VR + 1.4 Teleconverter, two 20 years old lenses: Nikkor 28mm 2.8 AF, Nikon AF Micro NIKKOR 105 2.8 AF , Metz flashlight and a Gitzo tripod with Arca head.
Feedback
If you have an object, which is on millions of photos, you should think about, why do want to shoot another one. What makes your photo different from the millions of other photos. Is it the perspective, weather, postprocessing or of course: your family is on the photo :-)
