This was taken in late fall last year. We rode up there the other day. So sad, the lake is almost empty and some type of construction work taking place. I'm so glad I got this shot last year.

Location
This photo of Lake Sequoyah and the spillway was taken after driving US Highway 64 from Franklin, NC up through the Cullasaja River Gorge. A drive that is not for the faint of heart yet has four beautiful waterfalls Cullasaja Falls, Bust Your Butt Falls, Bridal Vail Falls and Dry Falls.Time
The early morning drive gave us mountain mist along the way. This added a mystical sense to the view across the lake.Lighting
Everyone know your best light is early morning or late afternoon. I typically find myself out exploring or hiking at all hours of the day. Learn to use what you are given which in this case was the soft light as it strained to reach through the morning mist.Equipment
This was shot with my very first Canon DSLR, a Canon t2i with EF-S 18-55 kit lens. I’m pretty sure the tripod I used the least expensive one I could find. There is a lesson for beginners in this, learn to use the equipment you have. There is no doubt that the best equipment improves the shot but only if you understand how it all ties together.Inspiration
The little green boat was precariously perched on the spillway. It was clinging as if its existence depended upon it. It did, several days later after a heavy rain event I found the little green boat at the bottom of the spillway. It was destroyed and a sad ending to what I am sure was years of serenity for those lucky enough to have rowed her across these waters.Editing
Every photo I share has been post-processed using Lightroom. Everyone has their own opinion and I’m not going to stir the pot on this subject. My workflow creates in my mind what my eyes saw in real time.In my camera bag
I’m sure my camera bag is light compared to many. I have my Canon 6D, EF16-35 f/2.8 USM, EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 USM, Extender EF 1.4x III and always my Nifty 50mm.Feedback
If you see something that stirs your emotions you need to take the shot. It may not be there the next time you pass that way. This has happened to me on many occasions .
