Location
This image was taking during one of my weekend bird watching/photography trip. There was an area where the Little Owls were to be found and this was one of my favorite stops during my trips to that area. On this occasion, I had witnessed the Little Owls feeding on a Dove kill and decided to stay on and observer for some more time. That is when this image happened. It was a series of close contact between two Little Owls and I was able to capture the whole series.Time
Usually the best time to photograph Wildlife and Nature is during the few hours immediately after Sunrise. So I head out to my favorite birding spots in Qatar during that time to photograph these birds.Lighting
For best results I chose to photograph the bird during the time immediately after sunrise when the shadows are not harsh. I also ensures that the sunlight is coming from behind me so that it will expose the birds nicely.Equipment
Canon EOS 5D Mark III Canon EF 500mm f4L IS II + 1.4x III Bean bag to stabilise the camera and lens.Inspiration
This image was taking during one of my bird photography and Owls are one of my favorite species. I have observed these many times and have got many photos of the species. This particular image was a special one as the Owls gave me some unique views.Editing
I usually take all my Nature and Wildlife photos in RAW format. For this image I used Adobe Photoshop to correct some basic settings like exposure, contrast, white balance and sharpness. I used Topaz plugin to denoise the image. In my camera bag
Canon EOS 5D Mark III is my primary camera. For birds and other wildlife I mainly use Canon EF 500mm f4L IS II and Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L. I use a Canon 1.4x III Extender when I want some extra reach. For macro I use Canon EF 100mm f2.8 L USM Macro. For portraits and people photos I use Canon 70-200 f2.8 L, Canon EF 50mm 1.8 II and Canon EF 24-105mm f4L. For astro works and other wide angle shots I use Tokina 16-28mm 2.8. My two light sources are Canon 600RT-EX Speedlite flash and Canon 530 Ex-II Speedlites.Feedback
The most important thing I would say it having the time and patience to be at the location early enough and to keep waiting for the right moment to photograph that unique moment. Observation is key in Wildlife photography. Understanding the behavior aspects of animals allows us to anticipate their next move and this give us some time to get ready for great images. I always ensure that birds or animals are photographed in their natural environment and without the use of any feed or other manipulations. The equipment used is also another important factor to get good quality images. My Canon 500mm prime lens allows me the freedom to maintain sufficient distance from the subjects but at the same time get good quality images.
