Wildlife don't care about your lighting they will be harshly backlit hiding in a hole. So you must learn how to use your camera to get the best shot. This will come from the hundreds of deleted photos that did not work out!!Equipment

I have been tracking the progress of a set of great horned owls and their nest. On what was to be my last time there, I only saw one fledgling on the nest. Then I looked around and realized the other 2 were sitting on branches near me. The parents were also sitting fairly close by. I grabbed a few shots and hurried off not to bother the young birds.Editing
Just some cropping and simple contract adjustments. In my camera bag
I have typically have my 50-200mm lens on. This has a good range for wildlife. I will also carry a 30-140mm . I have my tripod in my vehicle but it usually is to cumbersome for fast moving animals or birds. My most important piece of equipment is lots of camera batteries.Feedback
The best way to capture wildlife is to learn what is in your area and where. Explore, join birding groups etc.. Once you find what your interested in, it is all about patience... sit and let the animal come to you. Then you will get the shots of them doing what they do in nature.
