Seems like such a long time ago that this little person entered our lives. He has changed us all for the better. I love you, Nico.

Behind The Lens

Location

I was blessed to have been able to relocate my home based desktop publishing business to where my daughter and son-in-law lived (only approximately 4 hours drive away) and take care of my grandson while his momma had to return to work as a teacher. By doing this, he was able to remain at home until fall when it was time to go back to school and be nearly one year old by that time. I wouldn't trade our time together bonding for anything.

Time

This was taken at approximately 10:00 a.m. on a weekday.

Lighting

The lighting in this room was delightful. It was situated in the living room where all of his toys, his swing, and all baby related items were. So really, anytime of day was divine to shoot in in this room.

Equipment

Nikon D3300, 55 mm, no flash, natural lighting coming through the window.

Inspiration

He did. My grandson in the image inspired me. I was watching him sleep in his swing making funny faces as babies do when they sleep. Fortunately for me, I was also able to capture this big yawn.

Editing

All I did was add in a sepia tone. Otherwise, it's SOOC.

In my camera bag

Nikon D3300, 55mm, 200mm lens, clothes, lip gloss, sunscreen (live in FL), a squeaker from a dog toy (works great to grab kids and animals' attention).

Feedback

Be patient. Nature does what nature does. Babies and especially (I'm learning) toddlers are so incredibly hard to do if you don't have a helper. I've yet to find a helper to work with, as I'm disabled and never know when I can go and when I can't. It's more of a spur of the moment as to when I can go shoot. Otherwise, my advise overall is stick with it. Be patient with yourself. As questions from photographers you admire their work. I've found are more than happy to help and share ideas and secrets.
