Behind The Lens

Location

I took this at Brinkburn Priory which is a beautiful ancient building tucked away in the North of England in Northumberland.

Time

I took this picture last year on a summers day and decided to visit the Priory mid morning after thinking of good locations for some shots of Northumberland. Last time I had visited I couldn't access the Priory as a wedding was on so I was really excited to finally enter the place. We were the only people there so it was even better to have the place to ourselves.

Lighting

The Priory itself had perfect natural lighting due to its aspect and windows. I set my camera to daylight setting in white balance.. Nothing technical I'm afraid

Equipment

The camera I use is a Sony A7 and I have not had the camera long. I am a complete amateur so learning about its settings as I go along. I did not use a tripod or flash I just set it to manual and adjusted my settings to take a few shots.

Inspiration

I was actually admiring the beautiful mosaic floor when I turned to see the light filtering through the windows casting a beautiful scene. I was a little excited to catch it before it faded with the sun changing positions.

Editing

I used both LR and Alien Skin Exposure 7 to bring up the contrast and strengthen the light flares. I brought up the saturation as well. I love editing but try and keep the picture as original as possible.

In my camera bag

I carry a Canon zoom, camera cleaning cloth and that's it. I have arthritis and need to travel light. That's the main reason I chose the Sony R7 as its so small in comparison to others!

Feedback

I see my photography as a huge learning journey which is why I love View Bug as I can look back on how I gave grown as a photographer by comparing my early shots to now. I would tell all those amateurs to believe in yourself and trust your gut instinct.. if you like it shoot it. Don't over think it or worry about perfect. Practice lots and enjoy it.
