I took this photo in the classroom where the photography course in Novi Sad was being held.Time
I think it was around 6 pm, around that time were the lessons being held.Lighting
I was given a compact fluorescent lamp, and started to move it around. I put the bulb slightly under the doll, so that she would have a sort of a creepy, mysterious look, combined with the surreal beauty of the face.Equipment
I don't remember what camera or lens that I used. The teacher just handed it to me and I started shooting. It may have been a Leica, but I'm not 100% sure. And I think that the lens was a 50mm. I used a compact fluorescent lamp. No tripod.Inspiration
At a photography course, we were doing analog photography lessons, and all of us were supposed to do our homework, where we would take 30+ analog photos during the whole week. I didn’t do my homework, so the course teacher gave me one of his analog cameras and told me to take a couple of shots, while he was developing the pictures with the other participants of the course. He also handed me a doll (called Samantha ) that was wearing a colorful t-shirt and a cap and a compact fluorescent lamp on a light stand. He told me to experiment with the camera settings, to see how dark the colors on her shirt would appear in a black and white image. I started taking photos of the doll, but quickly realized that a doll looking like that was just ridiculous and uninspiring. So I took the t-shirt and the cap off, and started taking pictures. The doll looked beautiful and alien-ish, which was just what I wanted her to look like.Editing
I did very little post processing, just removing the dust or the tiny bits of hair that was on the film. And I increased the contrast a little bit.In my camera bag
Canon 600d and my first lens Canon 50mm 1.4. When I have a more specific idea in my mind that I want to realize, the more equipment I may carry around with me (+ flash, tripod, silver reflector)Feedback
Feel free to experiment. Play with the light, try different things. And think outside the box. Just because someone tells you you should do something in a certain way, doesn’t mean that it’s going to result in something good. Even if its someone more experienced than you. Don’t be afraid to not listen to your teachers and do your own thing. And follow your own instincts and feelings.
