Jessie, Photoshop can be a wonderful tool, and does not always make photos look fake. It all depends on how you use it.

I know what you mean, Jessie. I prefer natural pictures myself. But a little help can't hurt now and then. This challenge will allow us to go all out and really get creative...only i don't have photoshop. i think my husband is going to get it for me though. hope it's easy to figure out! Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo is a comparable editing program for a lot less $$$. It will do basically the same thing as the more expensive Abobe brand name.

KarDan, I agree. I use CS3 (Adobe extended) but I also use Corel, both programs for almost every photo I have.(older ones excluded) Anyway, you can download a free trial of Corel (google it) for 30 days-fully functional. It's user friendly. It doesn't even begin to compare to CS3 but it's still a great program.

As a photographer, I agree that natural is always best, but for this specific competition, I believe that the judges are looking for Photoshopped photographs so that they can judge something out of the ordinary..So many people on this site take amazing photos, but I think that the judges are looking for something out of the ordinary, something fantastical, and that's alright. I'm not going to get snobby and say "I'd never use photoshop!" Photoshop is an amazing tool for artists who want to go above and beyond..If you do not use an editing program, nor would never use one, then that is fine, but for this specific competition, this is what they are looking for...No one HAS to enter by any means, but for those who enjoy working in Photoshop, and who are good at it, then this is a great competition.. Just my opinion.
