Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a weekend fishing trip with my family. The location is Barton Cove, Gill Massachusetts. We go there to fish fequently and there is never a shortage of beautiful landscape scenes.

Time

I took this shot right at dusk around 6:30 just as the sun began to set. The landscape is really what provided the opportunity to capture this moment. I remember standing right at the water's edge in front of a small drop off

Lighting

It was truly a one-of-a-kind photo with the cloud being in the right position at the right time to provide the perfect amount of light to make this shot stunning. Once the brightness of the sun at dusk broke through the clouds and the water was calm I knew I had the perfect shot.

Equipment

I took this with my iPod. It continually amazes me that hand held devices are capable of taking such amazing photos with such clarity and detail. I had not purchased my Nikon yet so it was the only equipment I had with me.

Inspiration

I take a picture of this view almost every time we go to this spot. Each one is beautiful in its own way. However, this one captured all aspects of how amazing this spot is; from the calmness and clarity of the water to the sun's light being transformed by the clouds it allows someone who has never been there to experience this scene the same way I did.

Editing

I adjusted the centering of the photo to try and make the horizon look as level as possible because I was standing on uneven ground. However, nothing else about the photo was changed from the original shot. I make it a point to use little to no post-processing on my photos; if I didn't get it right the first time I try again another time.

In my camera bag

I usually carry just my camera/iPod with me and my zoom lens. I am a self-taught photographer and use only the equipment I can afford.

Feedback

Always have your photography equipment with you at all times, when shooting outdoor photography you never know when you are going to be in the right place at the right time and capture something that is unique in and of itself because it is nature.
