This is so good! Everything from the clarity and composition, to the timing involved, the detail, the colors, (love the droplets of water on the koi).
Just a darn good shot.

This was shot with my first Canon, a Rebel XS, coupled with a 70-200L lens, shot at 200 mm. It was hand-held.Inspiration
I was at the Japanese Pavilion, just enjoying the beautiful Japanese landscaping by their Koi pond, when this egret flew in, and stood eyeing the pond. I stood watching him as he watched the fish, apparently selecting which one he would pick up for lunch, and I slowly took out my camera, removed the lens cover, and aimed it in his direction. Suddenly, he swooped down into the water and came up with the coy pictured here. It looked as though he was posing, but I think he was just waiting for the koi to stop flopping so he could swallow it without losing it. While waiting, I quickly set the shutter speed to 1/1000 sec and snapped as many photos as I could. Handheld.Editing

Be patient, be aware of background and lighting, and take as many photos as possible of your subject, and know that mistakes and missed shots are part of the learning process - don't beat yourself up when they happen.
