Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at a zoo while on vacation. I hand held my zoom lens and followed him through the eyepiece as he paced and growled until he finally settled down and I got this shot.

Time

This was taken at midday in the hot sun while my kids waited for me to move on to the next exhibit.

Lighting

While the lighting in this photo could've been better mother nature dictated the scene so I had to wait until he walked into the shade and take the shots he gave me.

Equipment

I used my recent christmas gift, a Canon 7d and one of my favorite lenses sigma 80-200 zoom

Inspiration

My love of animals inspired me on this photo and many others. I don't have the time or opportunity to go on safari so this is the next best thing.

Editing

On this image the post processing was pretty straight forward. I used light room to add a little more light to the subject and a little extra clarity to his face.

In my camera bag

Being a serious amateur I don't have all the equipment I would like to have but in my bag right now I have a Canon speed light 600 rt, nifty 50, sigma 17-70mm, and my 80-200mm. Of course my trusty 7d is always there waiting for me too!

Feedback

My only advice is patience. Be prepared to wait until the animal faces you in the right spot with the right expression and be ready to snap away!
