Behind The Lens

Location

At home on a sun porch, New England, Eastern United States.

Time

This was an afternoon shot. The light is more important when shooting black and white.

Lighting

The high key sunlight was crucial to this shot.

Equipment

This was shot on a rebel T3 with a 50mm lens, hand held.

Inspiration

Portraits to me are most interesting, when they are staged but natural feeling.

Editing

There was a black and white conversion with some high key tweaking.

In my camera bag

Normally I carry an SLR with a kit lens and often a 50 millimeter portrait lens and a lensbaby.

Feedback

To get expressive portraits you need the right expression on the face of the subject. You have to make the subject feel comfortable especially in the context of the natural light semi candid portrait.
