In the studio at my office. It was a day of milling about and practicing new lighting styles.Time
Afternoon. Erick had had his coffee so he was in good spirits.Lighting
I was experimenting with different lighting styles throughout the day. For this particular shot I wanted some really vibrant square lighting. The kind Peter Hurley has made so popular. But, like most photographers, my gear is limited by my income. So we improvised! I have two cheap fluorescent fixtures set vertically with a silver bounce underneath and a white card up above. All bouncing light on Erick's handsome mug.Equipment
Canon 5d Mk II with a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8. Hand held.Inspiration
I was practicing different portrait lighting that day. After practicing for a couple hours we eventually came to this and just had so much fun shooting. Erick insisted he looked too goofy to make it a "serious" photograph. Whatever that means. I submitted to prove to Erick that even though he's goofy he's still got that "lookability". Thanks ViewBug!Editing
Some basic adjustments were made in Lightroom. I don't do a lot in Photoshop. I prefer to do minimal processing on people's skin.In my camera bag
Canon 5d or 7d. Canon lenses. My favorite is the 70-200mm f/2.8Feedback
This was from a practice day. SO PRACTICE! You never know when something will click and you'll get a great shot. Everyone says "There is so substitution for experience". I agree.
